Course Overview
The Water–Energy–Food (WEF) Nexus Training Programme equips participants with the analytical, planning, and coordination skills required to manage trade-offs and synergies between water, energy, and food systems in a resource-constrained and climate-uncertain world. The programme recognises that decisions in one sector directly affect the others, and that siloed planning undermines sustainability, resilience, and inclusive development. The course integrates systems thinking, policy coherence, resource efficiency, and cross-sectoral planning tools to support integrated decision-making. It aligns with Agenda 2063, the SDGs (especially SDGs 2, 6, 7, and 13), CAADP, national development plans, climate strategies (NDCs/NAPs), and regional integration priorities. Participants gain practical experience in WEF nexus diagnostics, scenario analysis, project design, and governance mechanisms that improve outcomes across water, energy, and food systems.
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Explain the WEF nexus concept and its relevance to sustainable development.
- Analyse interlinkages, trade-offs, and synergies between water, energy, and food systems.
- Apply systems thinking and nexus assessment tools.
- Design integrated WEF nexus policies, projects, and investments.
- Improve resource efficiency and climate resilience across sectors.
- Strengthen cross-sector coordination and governance mechanisms.
- Integrate the WEF nexus into national planning and development strategies.
- Monitor and evaluate WEF nexus interventions and outcomes.
