Waste Management & Circular Economy Programme
Equip participants with the strategic, technical, and policy skills required to transition from linear waste models to circular, resource-efficient systems, promoting value recovery and sustainable development.
Course Overview
The Waste Management & Circular Economy Programme equips participants with the strategic, technical, and policy skills required to transition from linear “take–make–dispose” models to circular, resource-efficient systems. The programme addresses growing challenges related to solid waste, hazardous waste, plastics, e-waste, and industrial by-products, while promoting value recovery, green jobs, and sustainable urban and industrial development. The course integrates waste management best practices with circular economy principles, aligning with Agenda 2063, the SDGs (especially SDG 11, 12, and 13), national waste management strategies, and international conventions such as the Basel, Rotterdam, and Stockholm Conventions. Participants will gain practical experience in waste system planning, policy implementation, private-sector engagement, and the design of circular economy initiatives that reduce environmental impacts and enhance economic resilience.
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Explain the principles of waste management and the circular economy.
- Analyse waste streams, generation patterns, and environmental impacts.
- Design integrated waste management systems for urban and rural contexts.
- Apply circular economy strategies such as reduce, reuse, recycle, and recover.
- Strengthen governance, regulation, and enforcement in waste management.
- Promote private-sector participation and green business models.
- Integrate waste management into climate, health, and urban planning agendas.
- Monitor, evaluate, and improve waste and circular economy programmes.
