Course Overview

The International Project Management for Diplomats Programme equips participants with the strategic, technical, and diplomatic skills required to design, implement, monitor, and evaluate cross-border and multilateral projects. It integrates global project management standards with the practical realities of diplomacy, international cooperation, and intergovernmental coordination. The course covers results-based management (RBM), stakeholder engagement, risk management, budgeting, reporting, and project negotiation. Participants will gain practical experience in developing project proposals, logical frameworks, and implementation plans tailored to the African Union, Regional Economic Communities (RECs), foreign ministries, development partners, and international organisations. By combining diplomatic competencies with project management methodologies, the programme prepares professionals to drive successful initiatives that advance regional integration, peace, development, and cooperation.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Explain key principles of international project management and diplomatic engagement.
  • Apply results-based management (RBM), logical frameworks, and theory of change models.
  • Develop project proposals aligned with institutional mandates, donor priorities, and national/regional needs.
  • Plan, implement, and monitor complex, multi-stakeholder projects.
  • Manage risks, finances, procurement, and reporting requirements for international programmes.
  • Facilitate stakeholder coordination across governments, AU organs, RECs, UN agencies, and partners.
  • Communicate project progress effectively through diplomatic channels and reporting formats.
  • Apply negotiation and leadership skills to resolve challenges in international project environments.
