Course Overview

The Gender-Responsive Agriculture Programming Programme equips participants with the analytical, practical, and institutional skills required to design, implement, and evaluate agricultural programmes that promote gender equality and women’s economic empowerment. The programme addresses persistent gender gaps in access to land, finance, inputs, technology, markets, and decision-making, and demonstrates how gender-responsive approaches improve productivity, resilience, and development outcomes for entire food systems. The course integrates gender analysis, inclusive value-chain development, policy and budgeting tools, and results-based management within agricultural and rural development contexts. It aligns with Agenda 2063, the SDGs (especially SDG 5), CAADP, national gender and agriculture strategies, and donor gender policies. Participants gain hands-on experience in applying gender tools, mainstreaming gender across the project cycle, and measuring gender outcomes and impacts.

By the end of this training, participants will be able to:

  • Explain key gender concepts and their relevance to agriculture and food systems.
  • Conduct gender analysis in agricultural and rural development contexts.
  • Design gender-responsive agricultural programmes and value chains.
  • Address gender gaps in access to land, finance, inputs, technology, and markets.
  • Integrate gender into project planning, budgeting, and implementation.
  • Apply participatory and inclusive approaches that empower women and youth.
  • Develop gender-sensitive indicators and M&E frameworks.
  • Communicate and report gender results to policymakers and donors.
