Course Overview
The Fisheries & Aquaculture Development Programme equips participants with the technical, managerial, and policy skills required to develop sustainable, productive, and resilient fisheries and aquaculture systems that support food security, livelihoods, and economic growth. The programme addresses challenges such as overfishing, habitat degradation, climate change impacts, weak governance, and limited access to markets and finance, while highlighting opportunities in responsible fisheries management and sustainable aquaculture expansion. The course integrates fisheries science, aquaculture production, value-chain development, governance, and climate resilience. It aligns with Agenda 2063, the SDGs (especially SDG 2 and SDG 14), FAO Code of Conduct for Responsible Fisheries, Blue Economy strategies, and national fisheries and aquaculture policies. Participants gain practical experience in designing fisheries and aquaculture programmes, strengthening management systems, and improving productivity and sustainability across aquatic food systems.
