Course Overview
The African Diplomacy & Regional Integration Programme equips participants with the strategic, analytical, and diplomatic competencies required to advance continental cooperation, strengthen regional institutions, and support Africa’s integration agenda. The course focuses on the African Union’s governance and diplomatic systems, the role of Regional Economic Communities (RECs), multilateral negotiation skills, and Africa’s position in global geopolitics. Participants will deepen their understanding of Agenda 2063, regional integration frameworks, continental trade mechanisms, and Pan-African diplomacy. Using practical exercises, simulations, and real case studies, the programme prepares participants to effectively represent organisations in multilateral environments and contribute to advancing Africa’s development and unity.
By the end of this training, participants will be able to:
- Explain Africa’s diplomatic evolution, institutions, and collective foreign policy approaches.
- Analyse the structures, roles, and mandates of the African Union and Regional Economic Communities (RECs).
- Apply principles and practices of Pan-African diplomacy in regional and international engagement.
- Support policy harmonisation, treaty processes, and regional integration initiatives aligned with Agenda 2063.
- Conduct negotiations and consensus-building in AU, REC, and global multilateral forums.
- Promote effective cooperation between member states, AU organs, and continental institutions.
- Strengthen diplomatic communication, protocol, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Assess challenges and opportunities facing Africa’s integration and external partnerships.
